Ocean freight

Full container, consolidated cargo, project and out-of-gauge shipments from any port in the world to Puerto Cortés, Puerto Castilla or San Lorenzo.

  • FCL and LCL
  • Dry, reefer, open top, flat rack
  • Charter vessels and RO-RO
  • Out-of-gauge cargo

What it involves

Ocean freight carries most of Honduras’ trade, and it is where a planning mistake is most expensive: a late booking, the wrong container type or incomplete paperwork can cost weeks of delay and days of port storage.

At PRIME LOGISTICS we book space with carriers and co-loaders we work with continuously, not shipment by shipment. That lets us hold rates, secure equipment when it is scarce, and warn you early when a sailing slips or is cancelled.

We operate into all three of the country’s authorised ports — Puerto Cortés on the Caribbean, Puerto Castilla in Colón and San Lorenzo (Henecán) on the Pacific — and arrange inland haulage to your warehouse door, whether it is in San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa or anywhere upcountry.

What’s included

What this service covers

01

Full container load (FCL)

Dry 20’, 40’ and 40’ high cube for general cargo; open top for top-loading freight; reefer with temperature control and data logging; flat rack and platform for oversize pieces; ISO tank for bulk liquids.

02

Less than container load (LCL)

When your volume does not justify a full container, we consolidate your cargo with other shipments at the origin warehouse. You pay for the space you use and keep traceability of your pieces through deconsolidation at destination.

03

Project and out-of-gauge cargo

Machinery, generators, transformers, structures and agricultural equipment that will not fit a standard container. We prepare the route survey, define lashing and securing, arrange circulation permits and coordinate the crane at destination.

04

Charter, part charter and RO-RO

For volumes that will not fit a liner service we charter full or part vessels. On RO-RO we move vehicles, tractor units, trailers and self-propelled machinery that rolls on board.

Frequently asked questions

About this service

All questions

How long does an ocean shipment to Honduras take?

It depends on the origin port and the number of transhipments. As a reference: from the southeastern United States, 5 to 12 days in transit; from Europe, 18 to 28; from Asia, 30 to 45. Add origin consolidation time and customs clearance at destination.

FCL or LCL — which is better?

As a rule of thumb, from around 14–15 cubic metres a full 20’ container usually beats paying by volume in an LCL service, and it avoids deconsolidation, which is where shipments most often get delayed or damaged. Give us your actual measurements and we will run the exact comparison.

What if my cargo does not fit in a container?

It ships as break bulk, on a flat rack or on a platform, depending on the piece. We need weight, dimensions and lifting points to define the mode, calculate lashing and process circulation permits in Honduras.
